Debra Vodhanel

My paintings emerge from the manipulation of shape, paint flow, texture, and color on previously pristine white two dimensional surfaces. With the exception of preplanning my materials and hoping to arrest something beautiful I have never seen before on the painting surface, I have no preplanned image. I start with chaos, and work toward a meaning which is never reached, but left hovering beneath conscious identification.

I work in watercolor, egg tempura, and oils. Recent work is oil on wood panels, most are 2 feet by 4 feet
