Artists Statement; I began painting in 1999, the year before I began my studies in Otis College of Art and Design. Once I began in earnest, I was lead to the landscape, as I have a deep love for nature. I painted these from my own photographs. As I developed further, I began to paint the natural glories which I have experienced at sea as well as on land. Currently, the photographs that interest me were taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. When they were first circulated on the net, I was immediately struck by the beauty and the immensity of space. My challenge has been to evoke that sense of immense space in paint. Many say that I have succeeded. Art: a second career for Dr. Robert Newport, following thirty-one years as a psychiatrist.
