Art exhibition"Tango with Cows: Book Art of the Russian Avant-Garde

We invite all Larkgallery members and friends to view an ongoing exhibition at the Getty Research Institute
called "Tango with Cows: Book Art of the Russian Avant-Garde, 1910-1917."

The exhibition features the Getty Research Institute's superb collection of Russian modernist books,
bringing into focus a brief, but tumultuous period when Russian visual artists and poets including
Natalya Goncharova, Mikhail Larionov, Kazimir Malevich, Alexei Kruchenykh, and Velimir Khlebnikov,
challanged Symbolism and revolutionized book art. They fabricated books where they juxtaposed the
primitive and abstract imagery with transrational poetry they called zaum or "beyonsense," in order convey
humor, parody and an intriguing ambivalence and apprehension about Russia's past, present, and future.
